  • Practicing self-compassion and Managing Stress

*This article is provided for educational purposes only. It is Not our post.

Self-compassion is an important part of managing stress. It can help you to be kinder and more understanding towards yourself. It also helps to reduce feelings of guilt and shame when you make a mistake or do something wrong.

Self compassion put simply is having compassion for oneself. You realize that suffering, failure, and imperfection is part of the shared human experience. Directing feelings of kindness and care towards ourselves, and focusing our attention and energy on how we might alleviate our pain, are crucial components of self compassion. It is ok to have these feelings too. You must learn to accept these feelings and be happy with who you are. We are all human and we all have are faults. Self compassion is very important to your overall wellbeing and to help implement self compassion into your life, we have listed some tips below that might help.

   1) The first step in practicing self-compassion is recognizing that you are not perfect. You are human and that means that sometimes you will make mistakes, feel guilty, or feel ashamed.

   2) The second step is to acknowledge the mistakes that have been made or the emotions that have been felt without judging yourself for them. You should forgive yourself for any mistakes and move on with your day as best as possible instead of dwelling on them too much.

  3) The third and final step is to offer yourself some compassion by saying something like "I'm sorry" or "I forgive myself." This way you are accepting yourself and the mistakes that have been made.

Becoming aware and reacting better to your feelings will benefit you and others throughout your life. The steps provided in this article are only the beginning stages. We have room to improve, but actively practicing the art of self compassion will make you feel better, both mentally and physically.

As always we hope this information has been useful to you. Please remember that no one is perfect and to keep hope alive.

Our mission at Elderly or Disabled Living is to provide help to the ones who need it. EDL’s way of helping others is to assist financially or by providing  resources. Moreover, EDL was created with helping others in mind. Caring for others maybe a little harder to find nowadays, but it is still here and alive. It's just harder to find.

Working on myself for the past year has led me to believe that everyone needs to make time for themselves. Too often we try to do too many things at once. Our bodies were not meant to deal with so much stress. Take time to unwind.

  • I am trying to work on myself. Can anyone give me some more advice or tips on what to do? This article is good but it is not enough.

    • Have you tried any Facebook groups or have you tried to socialize with new people?

      • Yes, I have but I do not like to put myself out there and socialize so its very difficult. Any tips?

  • I struggle with myself. It is a daily battle. I feel I am never good enough no matter what I do. I have tried almost everything. Nothing seems to work but I will try these steps again. I know they help. I just need to stick with them on a daily bases.
